Hidden Foot Dangers At The Gym

Jan 16, 2017
Who believes “What you can’t see, can’t hurt you?” I doubt many people do, so why do millions of people hit the gym with aspirations of new year resolutions and never think about the hidden dangers that might affect their feet?

Who believes “What you can’t see, can’t hurt you?” I doubt many people do, so why do millions of people hit the gym with aspirations of new year resolutions and never think about the hidden dangers that might affect their feet? Gyms can be breeding grounds for dangers like fungus, viruses, and bacteria (including MRSA).

Gym showers and pool decks are notorious areas where these harmful organisms thrive. Walking barefoot in these places can put your feet in danger. Instead of going barefoot, wear water shoes or sandals around the pool or showers.

Not going barefoot is just the beginning in foot safety at the gym. Let’s face it, when you’re at the gym your goal is to get a good sweat in. The problem is our bodies sweat and our feet sweat too. When our feet sweat, they create the perfect moist and dark environment in our shoes for fungus and bacteria to thrive in. Change your socks frequently, spray your shoes with antibacterial spray weekly, and wash your feet after working out.

The new year is a favorite time for people to get back in shape. As you enter the gym this new year, don’t forget to keep your feet safe and avoid these hidden dangers.
